Dad, failing health, and dementia

That’s kind of what one end of the kitchen island looks like. That and several pairs of reading glasses and sunglasses, all his. His pillbox is twice the size of that one as he needs AM and PM meds. I fill the box in the middle of the night while he sleeps. It’s the only time I can do it in peace.

He wants to know what every pill is, what it’s for, how often does he take it, and who prescribed it. Every. Single. Time. In the meantime, I’m trying to concentrate. …

I’m having a CFS flare up

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)

I can’t keep my eyes open. I hurt all over. I had to Google it. You’d think after these years it would have been an automatic, aaaaaaaah, okay. Nope. I have so much brain fog right now that I had to Google something I’ve had for 15-years now to figure what is wrong with me today.

Symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome can vary from person to person, and the severity of symptoms can fluctuate from day to day. Signs and symptoms may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Problems with memory or concentration
  • Sore throat
  • Headaches
  • Enlarged lymph nodes…

It’s amazing what you forget with enough time and effort.

It was the 90s. I was working for a large insurance company around the corner from the White House. I worked in the policy issuance department. I was the department secretary. Go to work, go home. Go to work, go home. I liked my life. Routine and all. My “friends” didn’t think I was happy.

Because you know, someone else always knows you better than you know yourself. #nope

A couple of co-workers wanted to introduce me to a former co-worker. He had changed industries but stayed in touch with his former colleagues. I wasn’t interested. With a sufficient amount…

Writer Review

April 2021 recap

Wikimedia (CC BY-SA 3.0)

What can I say? I whooped April’s arse and handed it back to it.

I started off the month by publishing about new writers that were added to Technology Hits. I lifted up Robert Planz, Vladimir Agaev, Sajjad Hussain, Ryan M. Raiker, MBA, Anca Onuta, Jonatan Juárez, Aaron Pitty, Dimitri Papaioannou, Christopher Holmes, Pravallika Devireddy, and Abdul Majid Qureshi to the readers.

You can read about them here.

On the 13th I published Terry’s Selections, Successful daily routines. In this piece I featured Nuno Fabiao. Yes, he got an entire story to himself. Wanna know why?

I was smooooooookin’ on…

I'm always very specific. I do the equivalent of a line item audit on submissions. THEN I kick them out of queue. Even then that isn't a flat out rejection. Fix the notated issues and then resubmit. But we can't have hundreds of submissions sitting in queue waiting for corrections.

I've literally seen submissions sit at the bottom of the Q for as much as 5 days waiting for a response from a writer. Cut a rent check, man. We can't keep hunting through that many submissions trying to find the one or two that may have actually responded.

Then…

And 3 out of 6 stories under National news are still about COVID

I guess it could be worse. At least so far today they haven’t mentioned the former president. He’s been out of office for 6 months and “they” (Medium writers included) can’t keep his name out of their mouths.

I did catch a piece out of Florida where an apartment building caught on fire and the entire rear of the building collapsed. No word yet on the number of injured or deceased.

The Nation’s Capital continues to piss me off. Floyd Mori, have you seen this?

… the bridge was inspected in February and that a subsequent report issued May 25…

Now let me try to figure out why

Well, now. Let’s see…

I have this one chick who sticks her unrequested two cents into conversations online that don’t pertain to her and her two cents only makes things worse, not better.

I wonder if that could be it…

Then there’s telling people the same shyte over and over and over again.

I wonder if that could be it…

Then there’s not getting enough sleep and being in pain constantly.

I wonder if that could be it…

Captain’s Log-June 24, 2021

Nothing has changed since I started this yesterday. Okay. Maybe I’m a little calmer. I got some things off my chest. I…

Relational Medium

Featured writer and story

Johnny Paycheck, note the irony, nailed it back in 1977 with a song that repeats these two lines from the song:

Take this job and shove it
I ain’t working here no more

What is rage-quitting?

Rage-quitting is quitting a job without notice, many times out of anger. It’s different from just failing to show up to work the next day. It could be just walking off the job. You don’t plan it, you just have had enough.

This from Medium and ILLUMINATION writer Patricia Rosa.

We’ve covered many times before that I’m old. I’m a child of the 70s…

As you may know, Medium awarded top writers in the Partner Program with cash bonuses in April and May. The first bonus was originally planned as a one-time surprise to thank top active writers in April. The response was so enthusiastic that we awarded a second bonus in May, and we’re thrilled to announce that we plan to distribute bonuses in June and July too.

Many of you have understandably had questions about the bonus, so we wanted to share further details:

How long does Medium plan to give out monthly bonuses?

The bonus program will run through June and…

You plagiarists don’t stand a chance.

Image by Michael Treu from Pixabay

I wish I could tell you how many plagiarists I’ve reported to Medium. Yes, Medium. I don’t try to remove them from Illumination or the three other Illumination family publications that I’m an editor for. I no longer click the three little dots and click, Report this author.

Now, I go straight to the top.

I create a Help Desk ticket.
I screenshot your bullsh*t.
I give them the screenshot, your Medium ID, and a description of the offenses.

Within 24-hours I have an email that states they have yanked your account out from under you. …
