My Response to
“Act Like An Adult (I have questions)”
Sara Larca posted the other day and asked a lot of questions. But basically, it all boiled down to this. What do we mean when we tell people to act like an adult? What does an “adult” look like? Can a kid be considered an adult if they conduct themselves in a certain fashion?
I’m racking my brain and I cannot for the life of me remember the last time I told someone to act like an adult. I tell people all day every day to grow the fuck up, however. I wonder if that’s the same thing? To me, it isn’t.
I have been known to wear my PJ’s to the store… I’ve been known to giggle at the wrong time or whisper something inappropriate during a meeting. I’ve had my moments of road rage and perhaps I’ve made a passive aggressive comment under my breath here and there (and by perhaps I mean I 100% absolutely have). Do these things make me less of an adult?
No. Just different lifestyle choices in clothing; being bored out of your mind at another useless meeting; and road rage? Jesus jumps out of the car at the first red light I hit. He wants no part of it. 🤣 That’s more of a mental health check than being an adult. I’ve made my share of P/A remarks but it doesn’t mean that I’m not an adult. It means I’m in Rome so I’m speaking the language of the natives to ensure I’m being understood. 😉
