Because some publishers, not you of course, will publish every floating turd that comes by so they can quote stats like WordPress.

x number of stories

x this

x that

And all of it bullshit. A third grader couldn't read half the crap and not because the writing is PhD level but because it's just that bad.

But to hell with readers, right? They only pay $5 a month for unlimited reading. So let's pollute the platform and have them spend their days and nights digging for that one story that will keep them coming back.

"We" all seem to have forgotten that if there were no readers there would be no need for writers. But writers are narcissists. It's all about them and what they want to write, how they want to write it, even down to how they formatted it. Because you know, guidelines were written by publishers with nothing else better to do.
