My Very First Mic Drop
It involved a landline phone of all things.
Everyone thinks they’re the OG until some mess hits the fan and then you find out if you’re really made of steel or not. I was in my 30s when I discovered that my stuff was forged and ready to go.
It was a typical day. I had the day off, so I was doing the usual cooking and cleaning when the phone rang. Mind you this was back in the day when everyone had a landline and maybe a pager. Yes, I’m old but that’s okay. That just punctuates the point I’m making. Something in me knew before I ever answered the phone that it was another woman calling my house.
Michael had previously tried to convince me that he was out until all hours of the night working out at a gym that closed at 9 pm. He said there were always lines at certain pieces of equipment so the guys at the gym let him work out after they were closed while they cleaned the gym and prepped it for the next day. I don’t know what gym he was going to, but you can bet your sitting parts there were no beefy guys mopping floors at a gym at 2 am.
You don’t have to be a semi-genius to know this was bull. You just needed a good nose to smell BS upwind with a head cold. And that I had.
