To put this in context, Shani Silver’s piece, F*ck Sex And The City, centered around HBOs hotter than hot Sex and the City. The show ran from 1998 to 2004. God, it seemed a lot longer. Let’s dive into some of my favorite highlights from Shani’s piece.

That $500 pair of shoes is laughable to a woman who’s not splitting rent. Dates every other night of the week not only sound exhausting to attend but almost impossible to book in the first place. Datable men aren’t handed out to us like shitty flyers on the street. These days actually booking dates is more like trying to find a needle in a haystack that’s lit on fire.

I don’t think I’ve paid $500 for a couch before, let alone a pair of shoes. But that was the great thing about SATC. Fantasy. Pure, unadulterated fantasy. I knew life, mine or most of anyone else’s for that matter, was never going to be like that. Sort of like a modern-day Cinderella. The parties, the clothes, the travel. The never-ending smoking, eating, drinking, and sexing. *sigh*

Yep. Never going to happen. Sort of like my lifelong obsession if you will with the daytime soap The Young and the Restless. I can remember watching it with my grandmother, and sometimes my mom. Now I fly solo but I’m still hooked. Generations of escapism.
