I am absolutely sickened by the state of our union. I have branches of my family tree that have been here since the 1600s. We have fought in every war since the American Revolutionary war. But yet I've felt I've had no choice but to update my passport just in case.

Just in case I have to bolt from the very country my ancestors helped build. Flee from all of the ideals like pride, ethics, morals, character all used to mean something. Leave behind a place where with a direct look and a handshake meant more than a legal document.

I feel like a traitor to even consider leaving. However, being one of the few people still alive from my family, I am alone. And I will go to wherever I have to in order to feel safe. In a place where we grew up with keys in the car and doors unlocked, I no longer feel safe sitting in a home with all of the windows and doors closed and locked.
