I grew up hearing, "If you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry about." By the time I was 8 my nerves were shot and I cried all the time. A girl at school caught me crying in the bathroom and asked me why I was such a crybaby.

No one knew I was being abused at home. It was a time when people didn't talk about such things. Whatever happens in the house stays in the house.

I'm glad today we're so much better about it but I still don't cry. Maybe at 60 it's too late for me to change.
