I know that the net of my life insurance policy is going to the Dover Airforce Base in Dover, Delaware. Specifically, I have told the funeral home (who is my sole beneficiary) to designate the funds to the DTs.

DTs, for those who don't know, are Distinguished Transfers. Anyone who is killed while in service to their country comes through Dover AFB. The base has special housing for the families that have come to recover the remains of their loved one.

Every expense for the family is paid for. The families pay for nothing. No housing, no food, no toiletries. Nothing for as long as they are on the base and making arrangements for the final leg of the soldier's remains to make it home.

With the number of troops that fall each year as you can imagine this is a huge cost but is still nothing in comparison to the cost to the family of having a service member KIA.

As a country it is indeed, the very LEAST we can do.

But that's just my opinion.
