I used to think like new writers when I was one myself that you have to get published in big publications in order to be seen.

I couldn't have been more wrong. It will go one of two ways. You will be one of 100 published in a publication and be buried under. Or you could go the Writing Cooperative route where for a donation to their Patreon account, you get bumped to the head of the line.

I mentor new writers and I tell them all the same thing. Spread your work out over a few middle to small pubs and just write. The rest will come in time.
