It's a financial handicap. They will spend the rest of their lives paying someone to do their writing for them, a resume for example, because they can't do it for themselves. Forget about online applications or even the old skool (see what I did there?) paper apps.

Employers (at least they used to) got hundreds of applications for a single opening. They could afford to be choosey. If your writing is illegible. Paper shredder. Can't put a coherent sentence together? Paper shredder.

I know because I used to do it. Employers do have the time to hand hold new hires because they can't read or write their way through their onboarding process or read and comprehend the materials given to them as a new hire. And they certainly aren't going to do it ongoing.

Like it or not this is an English based country. You don't have to like it but you do yourself a disservice if you don't learn it.
