My experience was slightly different. Okay, a lot different. My entire family on both sides are/were racist, bigots, and homophobes. As a child, I was too as that's all I ever knew. By the time I hot my tweens however, they had made the "mistake" of drumming the bible in my head.

Sooooo, doing what precocious children do. I made a rather bold statement. I had read the bible forwards and backward more than once and not once did I ever seeing anything about there being multiple heavens. There is no green heaven, orange heave, blue, black, brown, or white. It's just heaven. And if they all (my family) couldn't learn to get along with everyone here (on earth) they could forget about ever seeing heaven.

They kind of cooled down after that. If they kept up their hate speech they didn't do it around me. At least that lesson they learned!
