Johnny Paycheck, note the irony, nailed it back in 1977 with a song that repeats these two lines from the song:

Take this job and shove it
I ain’t working here no more

What is rage-quitting?

Rage-quitting is quitting a job without notice, many times out of anger. It’s different from just failing to show up to work the next day. It could be just walking off the job. You don’t plan it, you just have had enough.- Patricia Rosa.

We’ve covered many times before that I’m old. I’m a child of the 70s. Lots of you will have covered the 70s in your US History classes (I hope!) in school. Back when I was growing up there was no such thing as rage quitting. It was just “quitting” so the term caught my attention.

At one point in her piece, Patrica stated, “It’s never a good idea to burn your bridges and quit without notice.” I disagree. While in some cases this may be a good idea, more often than not when someone walks off of a job it’s because they have done everything that they know to do to make the job situation work but were met with anything and everything from being ignored to being harassed.

Those are the times that call for, take this job and shove it.
