There's what it was intended to mean when it became a buzz word and what it has actually become to mean now that it's a joke. To be woke originally was that you were no longer walking through life with blinders on. The scales on your eyes had fallen a way and all the things like hate, violence, racism, etc. you could now see fully and clearly.

But like all things in life some people have to shove the needle so far to the extreme that feels as though it's being shoved up your ass. Now woke is a derogatory word. It isn't that you're woke and think gays should marry, it's that you're SO woke it's okay with you if kids marry adults and men marry unicorns so long as everyone is happy.
