“I didn’t realize that I wasn’t following any guidelines at all. I wasn’t doing the titles correctly. I wasn’t using any pictures. I didn’t know what I was doing.”
And this is with my guess about 99.8% of first-timers on Medium. I know I was. I self-published my first two pieces because I didn’t know anything about publications for one. For two, my thought was that if I self-published and screwed up, who was going to be the wiser? I had no followers. It gave me the opportunity to play with buttons and explore the writer’s side of the platform without repercussion. It was nerve-wracking and freeing all at the same time.
