What good is LinkedIn to writers?

I had LinkedIn a few years ago but it was to network for work. I hated it. I didn't have a name for it then but having been on Medium I do. The whole thing felt like a follow-for-follow thing. I'd get a million and one requests for people to join my circle that I had nothing in common with.

I just couldn't see the point in it. Then months after I closed my account I would still get invites from LinkedIn users. When I contacted customer service about it they said that I indeed did not have an account but couldn't explain the annoying invites.

Please tell me things have gotten better over there. I've thought about giving it another go but I'm just not convinced it's worth it.
