When a Termination Goes Wrong
Flashback memories
You have to watch the video first for context as it was what brought back a memory I had long forgotten. The crescendo is at the four-minute mark.
Welcome back. Funny as h3ll, right? Steve Harvey always cracks me up. I don’t know how the man does it. Well, yeah I do. It’s called talent. Something that the world could use a lot more of.
Now let me tell you what memory this dredged up from the long-ago past.
In the late 90s and into the 2000s I worked for the feds. We were “temporary” employees. I say “temporary” because some were more temp than others. My temp assignment lasted nearly 7-years. I had to be reappointed annually. Right down to raising my right hand and being sworn in with each appointment.
If you did a stellar job they kept you. If you didn’t, they let you go. If you were really a PITA they would let you go sooner under the guise of “business was slow”. And there were indeed times when business was slow and we were top-heavy so some people would be cut loose and told that they would be called back if needed. Others? They were just sent packing. In one layoff alone we let 300 people go.
Now that’s top-heavy.
